One day, Tisziji was asked by his student, Subhuti, to describe who he is, as Spirit, in such a way that the answer might result in a statement for students or other beings to study or use for the purpose of expanding and deepening their awareness of what the spiritual self is, or who, at the Heart, anybody is. As a response to her sincere question, this song, as a form of direct instruction to her, was written within a two-day period during the month of September in 1983 while Tisziji was at Peace Gate in Brooklyn, New York.
